Nepal

On October 4 2008 19 Kiwis leave New Zealand for 5 weeks tramping, running and climbing in Nepal. Our goals include trekking the Langtang-Helambu circuit, crossing Ganja La and Gosainkund, climbing Yala and Naya Khang Peaks and walking/running the Annapurna circuit in 7 days.

Gorapani

We have all made it to Gorapani for the last night of the Annapurna section.
Yesterday was listed in the guide books as 16 hours of trekking and the 6 of us who elected to walk it rather than take the jeep had some trepidation about where and when we would finish, but in the end we made it to Tatopani from Jomoson by 4pm.
The walk down the valley was spectacular as we watched the landscape change from windswept, high altitude desert to moist banana belt. There is now a sort of road all the way down the valley. In places it crosses huge slips and there is a 50 minute walk across a section that has completely collapsed. In places the old trail exists on the other side of the river - and it is much nicer.

The hot pools at Tatopani were wonderful and we soaked in them for quite some time. There was a major festival in town last night and we had a great time watching and occassionally joining in the dancing.

We have had a slight change of plan and will stay tomorrow night in Pokora. Everyone was keen to spend some time there and we would have had to leave Poon Hill earlier than we wanted to catch the flight tomorrow. As it turns out the perfect weather of the last month appears to have broken and we will be lucky to get views tomorrow.

This post is via a very unstable satelite connection - just hope it works.
